The James building has lots of great historical character and represents lots of history for CBU. This is where the CBU Graphic Design community is. The top of the James Building has been designed with a cool look and is ideal for graphic design. All of the latest equipment is there for design with Apple Mac computers and an indoor photography shoot area.
Meghan Martinez is a CBU lead designer and is responsible for design in a few CBU projects. She is a designer for the CBU Newspaper, The Banner. She is also the lead designer for the CBU year book and is responsible for designing the year book cover for the class of 2015. She is also a designer for the CBU Pursuit magazine. In addition to these project, she is also a designer for the new CBU OPS magazine, Evoke.
Meghan represented CBU, along with the rest of the design team, in New Orleans last year at an annual Collegiate Design Conference to showcase CBU publications. She has also assisted in the redesign of a magazine publication for missions on the east coast. Her next project will be an internship with a sports agency in Spain.
The design community utilizes the Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design. The main product tools utilized within the Adobe Creative Suite are InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Meghan utilizes InDesign to layout and design many of her spreads for publications. This tool allows for multi-page layout and page feature control for columns, images and text placement.
Each publication design project is defined with a preset library of fonts for publication consistency and a color scheme is selected to compliment each design subject. |
Meghan receives input for each monthly publication and sets the tone for the entire design. She then assigns design projects to other design members on the team. These designers contribute design segments that are incorporated into the monthly publication. She works with each designer to ensure they understand the objective for the individual design piece and ensures the design meets publication standards.
Meghan says the design sessions are long hours and the design environment is definitely high energy with lots of multitasking taking place. Deadlines come with each project and everyone pulls together to get each issue done. Meghan also says the high pressure deadline environment is what adds to the excitement of the graphic design community. The one thing everyone has in common is the love of graphic design and the appreciation and sense of accomplishment experienced at the end of each publication issue.
Dr. Chute, Department Communication Arts, oversees Meghan's work for all publications and has been instrumental in providing opportunity and direction for Meghan's design experience at CBU. Meghan has studied with professors such as Professor Michael Berger, College of Architecture, Visual Art and Design and Professor Trevor Hoehne, College of Architecture, Visual Art and Design.
